DOCTORS are delighted with the improvement made by injured jockey Lorcan Wyer but there are no plans yet to release him from hospital.

Wyer is recovering at the Walton Hospital in Liverpool after surgery to repair a smashed jaw sustained in a fall from Thornton Gate at Aintree last Saturday.

The jockey's list of injuries also included a broken collar bone and fractured pelvis.

It had been hoped that it would be possible to transfer Wyer to a hospital nearer his home in Yorkshire.

Sue Litherland, a spokeswoman for the Walton Hospital, said yesterday: "He is still progressing nicely but there are no plans yet for a discharge.

Meanwhile, Richard Johnson faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his collar bone in a three horse pile up at Chepstow on Wednesday.
