Wicklow 1-16 Waterford 0-8 In a game moved from Walsh Park to county venue Kill, Waterford started well with the stiff breeze and posted two early points through Shane Walsh. But Tommy Gill was soon troubling the home defence and his three points helped Wicklow lead 0-5 to 0-4 after the first quarter.

The teams were level six times in the first half before points from Walsh and John Coffey put Waterford two points up nearing half-time. Then an intercepted pass allowed Wicklow break upfield, where Gill's finish made it 1-6 to 0-8 at the break.

On the resumption Walsh's shot shaved the outside of the post, but that was the last time Waterford threatened as Wicklow took control. Trevor Doyle got six fine points, Thomas Harney scored two and Gill shot a great point in the 61st minute.
