Three goals by corner forward Keith Byrne helped Wicklow to beat Kildare in the O'Byrne Cup in Baltinglass yesterday.

Wicklow got off to a great start and a lead of 2-1 to 0-0 after seven minutes was the platform for a half-time cushion of 3-5 to 0-2. The early goals were scored by Byrne and Jonathan Behan.

Kildare were completely out of sorts and even missed a penalty early on, goalkeeper Ken Quirke saving Niall Buckley's spot kick. However, Johnny McDonald, returning to the Kildare team, had better luck with his penalty midway through the second half as Kildare fought back.
