Waterford 0-16 UL 0-12:Waterford, under new manager Niall Carew, saw off a spirited University of Limerick outfit but only after extra-time at a chilly Carriganore.

The hosts only managed to put daylight between themselves and UL in the second period of extra-time, with captain Gary Hurney producing a stunning 30-metre strike from the right flank to effectively secure victory over the dogged students.
