Relegation-threatened Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United remain anchored in the danger zone after this dour scoreless draw at the Showgrounds yesterday.

The game again underlined Sligo's embarrassing lack of scoring power. The only real incident of note in an untidy first-half came after 38 minutes when Padraig Moran latched onto Steve Birk's pass only to see his well struck shot brilliantly saved by Drogheda keeper Gareth Byrne.

The unfortunate Moran squandered two further opportunities in the second-half as Sligo continued to apply sustained pressure in search of a breakthrough. Drogheda, however, defended with great vigilance and were always dangerous on the quick counterattack.

Sligo Rovers: Broujos, Rossiter, Lynch, Bonnar, McLynn, Charles, Birks, Byrne, Flannery, O'Grady, Moran. Sub: Marshall for Bonnar (65 mins).

Drogheda United: Byrne, A Murphy, Boyle, Foley, Maher, O'Keeffe, McDonald, Roberts, Thomas, O'Dowd, C Murphy. Sub: McCann for Thomas (70 mins).

Referee: J Feighery (Dublin).
