Unrest may lead to venue change

SWIMMING is the latest sport threatened with disruption because of the disturbances in the north

SWIMMING is the latest sport threatened with disruption because of the disturbances in the north. The IASA will review the use of Grove Baths, Belfast, as the venue for the National Championships later this month at a meeting in Cork today.

Yesterday, association secretary Celia Millane said. "We have been watching the situation for the past few days and the safety of our members is our big concern.

"To that effect we are having a special executive meeting on Saturday. Whatever we decide on will be communicated to the clubs immediately. We can't leave our decision on this matter any longer than Saturday because people have hotel bookings that would have to be rearranged in the event of any venue change."

The Guinness pool in Dublin, Leisureland in Salthill or Mayfield in Cork would be likely alternative venues.
