THE Irish Universities resisted a strong second half revival by the Welsh Universities to win the annual pre international game at Cardiff last night.

A hat trick of first half penalties by out half Richard Ormond put the Irish 9-0 ahead at half time. With the benefit of a stiff breeze in the second half, Wales came back with two penalties by skipper Peter Roberts but two opportunist tries by Irish captain Robin Murrow of Queen's and Ormond made the game safe.
