MANCHESTER United have abandoned their bid for Bayern Munich defender Markus Babbel, who will now stay with the German champions. Babbel's high wage demands proved decisive in the negotiations.
He rejected United's proposed salary of around £1 million a year after United and Bayern had agreed a £5 million transfer fee.
