UCD got the better of the gale force winds and their old rivals, Trinity College, to win the annual Colours match by 1-0 at Belfield yesterday.

So appalling was the weather it was a day more suited to battening down the hatches but both sides defied the elements to produce an attacking game.

After absorbing early Trinity pressure UCD scored the game's only goal in the 10th minute from their first short corner. Hilda Maguire fired past Isobel Harbison after the ball had been switched right into her path.

Trinity pressed in search of an equaliser, with Linda Caulfield prompting their best work from midfield, but rarely troubled UCD goalkeeper Emma Wood. When called upon, most notably by Anya Bowers, she dealt comfortably with Trinity's efforts.

UCD: E Wood, L Hobson, J Cotter, S McDaid, B Sparkes, C Little, C O'Brien, L Cotter, C Larkin, H Maguire, N Lacey. Subs: A O'Connor, S Hayes.

TRINITY: I Harbison, C Stewart, A Bowers, D Bolger, U Budd, L Feeley, L Caulfield, C Griffin, S Barrett, A Budd, K Wallis, Subs: A Barry.

Umpires: B Carroll and B Thompson.
