IRELAND'S Margaret Johnston, defending her Women's World Bowls singles title at Leamington Spa, near Birmingham, had two emphatic victories yesterday as she chased the league leader - Joyce Lindores of Scotland - in the race to reach Sunday's final.

Johnston, who must win the league to reach the final, opened yesterday's campaign in fine style, winning 25-12 against Dorothy Paniani and then defeated Holland's Marie Taylor 25-7.

Lindores is still two points clear at the top of the league, ahead of Johnston, England's Wendy Line and Fiji's Litia Tikoisuva.

Each player has four games left and one of the most vital clashes will be the battle between Johnston and Lindores in the final league session tomorrow.
