Sonya McGinn and Michael Watt retained their singles titles at the National Badminton Championships in Baldoyle yesterday, beating Elaine Kiely and Niall Tierney in straight sets in their respective finals.

It was Watt's seventh singles' title and Dubliner McGinn's fifth.

McGinn also won the doubles' crown, teaming up with Keelin Fox to beat Kiely and her partner Caroline O'Sullivan 11-6, 11-7.

In the under-15 National Championships KADCA's Mark Ward won a hat-trick of titles, beating his clubmate Brian Smith in the singles final, while Jennifer King took the girls' title, defeating Ruth Kilkenny.
