Tottenham 2 Newcastle 3: Makeshift Newcastle produced a stunning late comeback to notch a shock Premiership win at Tottenham.

Obafemi Martins and Nicky Butt both netted within a minute during the closing stages as Glenn Roeder's patched-up side took all three points.

They looked like being buried in the early stages as Jermain Defoe slid home the opener on 14 minutes to cap a super Spurs start.

But within two minutes the visitors were level, with youngster Paul Huntington netting at the second attempt after being found by James Milner's free-kick.

Tottenham continued to dominate and eventually went back in front early in the second half.

It was Dimitar Berbatov who volleyed home after a goalmouth scramble.

Now Spurs looked certain to press home their advantage, but on 72 minutes everything changed again.

Martins produced a stunning goal out of nothing - blasting into the top corner with his left foot from 20 yards out.

And within a minute he provided a perfect pass for Butt - who had only played after getting off his sickbed - to slide home the winner.

It was the perfect finish for Butt, who had enjoyed an angry spat with Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda as the teams left the field at half-time. PA
