Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to make a bid for Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to solve his goalkeeper crisis, according the player's representative.

With first-choice keeper Petr Cech facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his skull against Reading on Saturday, Mourinho is said to be keen to draft in a world-class replacement as soon as possible.

And Buffon's representative Paolo Fabbri has said that the Premiership champions are interested in the 28-year-old.

"We are aware (Chelsea owner) Roman Abramovich can offer fortunes," he said. "What he needs is to convince the player it's the right move for him. This is not a financial issue, it's about a chance in life. I don't think he wants to leave Italy but things can change quickly in football."

Buffon has four years remaining on his current contract with the Turin-based club, who were relegated to Serie B at the end of last season following a match-fixing scandal.
