Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has been charged with two counts of assault following an incident in a nightclub involving a teenage girl.

The Wales international was arrested by South Wales Police in March after a 19-year-old claimed he struck her at the Number 10 nightclub in Cardiff on February 5th this year.

The player recently wed his childhood sweetheart Claire Jensen and completed a move from Blackburn to Liverpool.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "A 26-year-old man has been charged with two counts of Section 39 assault.

"He was charged after answering bail on Friday morning. No court date has yet been fixed."
