Mayo, without place-kicker Maurice Sheridan, were much too strong for a young Antrim team, winning comfortably at the opening of a new pitch at Killala yesterday.

Sheridan injured a hamstring in a club match on Saturday night and is doubtful for the All Ireland semi-final against Offaly on Sunday week. In preparation for that match, Mayo manager John Maughan tried out 23 players and carried out a number of experiments, the most notable being the positioning of Liam McHale at full forward, John Casey at centre-half forward, with the inform David Brady recalled to midfield.
