SARACENS yesterday confirmed that they signed Frenchman Philippe Sella, the world's most-capped player.

The 34-year-old, who collected 111 caps between 1982 and last June's World Cup, will join another world record breaker, Australian Michael Lynagh, at Southgate next season.

Sella said: "I am very impressed with the Saracens set-up and the club's plans for the future."

His deal is estimated at £100,000 per season - as is Lynagh's - with the money coming out of the £2.5 million injected, into the club by local millionaire businessman Nigel Wray.

Sella added: "I feel that after 15 years with Agen and France, England presents me with a fresh, exciting challenge."

Saracens' chief executive Mike Smith said: "We are absolutely delighted by Philippe's decision to join us next season.

"He is a world-class player with an outstanding attitude both on and off the field."
