Gene Sauers took a one shot lead after the first round of the $1.4 million Texas Open at San Antonio, Texas. Sauers shot a 65, one clear of Duffy Waldorf, Mike Brisky and Paul Goydos.

Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo, the leading European golfers over the last two decades, were yesterday elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.

"It's a great honour to be in the first group elected to the Hall Of Fame," said 40-year-old Ballesteros.
