Saeed Anwer returned to batting form with a sparkling 108 not out, steering Pakistan to a comfortable eight-wicket win over West Indies in the Quadrangular cricket tournament in Lahore yesterday. Aamir Sohail, with an unbeaten 71, and Saeed Anwer put on a unbroken stand of 164 that helped Pakistan romp home with 9.2 overs to spare.

Earlier, Stuart Williams laboured to 75 and Phil Simmons played a resolute knock of 70 to help West Indies reach 215 for seven in their 50 overs.

With both teams needing a win to remain in contention for the November 8th final, interest waned once West Indies failed to post a challenging target.

Saeed Anwer hit 13 fours in his 129-ball innings, having adjusted his technique with advice from former masters Sunil Gavaskar of India and Geoff Boycott of England. Saeed now stands second in one-day centuries after Desmond Haynes's record 17 hundreds.

"I am relieved now and this win has raised our confidence. Saeed is back in form and so is Aamir Sohail and I am hopeful that we will now beat Sri Lanka and reach the final," Pakistan's captain Wasim Akram said.
