Britain's Greg Rusedski bowed out in the first round of the Italian Open in Rome yesterday at the hands of second seed Goran Ivanisevic.

In a battle of two big servers, world number 64 Rusedski went down 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 to the Croatian, who relied on his blazing forehand and the occasional touch shot to secure victory.
