Breege Connolly – Athletics

Age: 38. Event: Marathon. Hometown: Kinlough, Co Leitrim

Good things come to those who wait, although Connolly, the oldest member of the athletics team, only recently dreamed of the Olympics. She discovered the sport in 2003, while in Australia. After moving back to Ireland, she joined North Belfast Harriers as a way of making friends, before later again beginning to train seriously. In April of last year, she ran 2:37:29 in London, enough to qualify her for Rio, so she’s now an Olympian, something she takes extra pride in considering she’s worked full-time in e-commerce along the way.
