WALLABY lock John Eales kicked Australian state side Queensland out of trouble and into title contention with six penalty goals in a 25-18 win over Northern Transvaal in their Super 12 match yesterday.

The win took Queensland to second place on the Super 12 table with Northern Transvaal, previously undefeated, falling back to sixth.

Eales rescued his side after they had trailed Northern Transvaal 10-13 at halftime.

Queensland's second half started badly when a clearance kick by Eales was charged down and Northern Transvaal centre Danie van Schalkwyk scored his side's second try. Eales then converted five successive second half penalties conceded by Northern Transvaal as Queensland launched wave after wave of attack.
