TOP IRISH jockey Barry Geraghty will step in for the ride on Poquelin in Saturday’s Old Roan Chase at Aintree.

The Paul Nicholls-trained chaser is being targeted at the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham next month but will run at Aintree first where Geraghty, who won the race last year on Monet’s Garden, fills in for the suspended Ruby Walsh.

“We will go for the Old Roan followed by the Paddy Power. He has done well over the summer, very well indeed, and has strengthened up no problems at all,” said Poquelin’s owner Andy Stewart yesterday.
