DON POOLEY, battling to get his career back on track after losing his exempt status last season, broke free of a crowd yesterday to snatch the half-way lead in the Los Angeles Open golf tournament.

Pooley, 41, got to grips with the unpredictable winds on the Riviera Country Club course to card a three-under 68 for a seven-under-par total of 135.
