Press photographer Jack McManus dies aged 83

‘A craftsman as well as a perfectionist’, he spent his entire career at ‘The Irish Times’

The death has occurred of former ‘Irish Times’ photographer Jack (Kevin) McManus at the age of 83.

McManus was from Aughrim, Co Wicklow. Barring a brief period in public relations, he worked for ‘The Irish Times’ from the time he left school until his retirement aged 65.

Frank Miller, picture editor of ‘The Irish Times’, said: “Jack was the last gentleman press photographer. He was of a generation that was extremely well-spoken and polite, and was a craftsman as well as a perfectionist.”

He is survived by his wife, Sue, and children Ashley, Kevin and Lynn.

Reposing at home on Monday from 2pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday at noon at the Most Sacred Heart Church, Aughrim, followed by burial in Macreddin Cemetery.
