GEORGIA officials announced a $140 million traffic control system based on fiber optics yesterday calling it the world's most advanced technological network of its kind.

After being speeded up by a decade to be ready in time for the Olympics, Georgia's Intelligent Transportation Systems will employ an army of cameras, electronic signs and sychronized traffic lights to guide commuters through the Atlanta metropolitan area.
