Now the manager of the Tipperary team on which he was for so long an idol. The next decade should be interesting for Tipp who, in the 50s and 60s, were an astonishing force in the game. English, with his fluent skill, was seen as the player who was pivotal in restoring the county to greatness when they won the championship in 1989 after a 18-year gap. Last year he led them to the hurling league title. This summer, he will be hoping for more.
