THE Irish Men and Women's Squash teams hag mixed fortunes against Belgium in their final Pool matches at European championships in Denmark yesterday.

The men had an unexpectedly easy 4-0 win, against a team ranked three places above them in Europe, and finished top of their pool but the women, who were Pool C favourites, had to settle for second place after losing 3-0 to the Belgiums.

The men, who now move into the fifth to 12th place play off, have already guaranteed an improvement on last year's 14th place finish but they have never beaten Sweden, their likely opponents today, at this level of competition. The women's team, who were aiming for a place in the top eight, can now finish no higher than 11th.
