New Zealand skipper Grant Dalton guided his crippled yacht Merit Cup into Cape Town yesterday to take second place at the end of the first leg of the Whitbread Round the World Race. A tired Dalton described the yachts in which the race was sailed as "man killers" and said he would have to have a major rethink on the strength of the equipment he used for the next leg.
