MEATH goals in the 39th and 41st minutes from right full forward Gerard O'Neill laid the foundation for the county's retention of their Leinster special MHC title at the expense of neighbours Kildare at Dr Cullen Park on Saturday.

The sides were level 1-3 to 0-6 at half time; but Meath held an overall advantage in physique and hurling ability. And in centre back Nicky Horan they had the game's outstanding player.
