GOLF/DIGEST:Teenager Danielle McVeigh was spearheading the Irish challenge at the end of the first round of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at Alwoodley, Leeds, last night.

McVeigh (19), the 2005 Irish Girls champion from Royal County Down Ladies, fired a level-par 72 to be among the leaders and well on course for a place in the 64 who go forward to the matchplay phase after today's second strokeplay round.

The long-hitting McVeigh birdied all four of the par fives
