KATE McCandless set an impressive time of 32 minutes, 44 seconds in yesterday's Women's Mini Marathon and in doing so set a new record for the event which dates back to 1983.

The 26 year old Californianborn athlete, who has declared for, Ireland under the parentage ruk, finished just under a minute ahead of her closest rival Catherine Shum, with Rose Lambe a further 48 seconds behind in third.

It was another impressive victory for McCandless, who won the English Cross Country championship two years ago and looks a very bright prospect for the future. She now turns her attention to the National championships at Santry next weekend where she will run at 10,000 metres.
