British LTA squad members Ross Matheson and Tom Spinks generated great pace in the final of the Carlsberg Men's Irish Open championships at Templeogue on Saturday.

Matheson won in a final-set tiebreak, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6. One break apiece over the first two sets and an exchange of breaks early in the final set before the tie-break gives a fare idea of how close it was.

Julia Lutrova of Russia retained the Leinster Open at the expense of an erratic top seed, South African Mareze Joubert, 6-3, 7-5.
