A GOAL 11 minutes from time gave Tottenham's under 21 side a somewhat fortuitous win over a committed and adventurous National League selection at Tolka Park last night.

Ironically, Irish youth international Kevin Maher got the crucial goal when he rose at the near post to superbly head Stephen Carr's cross past goalkeeper Michael Dempsey.

After Tottenham's goal the home side should have been level inside a minute, but goalkeeper Simon Brown made a terrific save to push out Jonathan Prizeman's shot. Minutes later Brown excelled himself as he kept out a header from Trevor Crolly, and follow up shots from Thomas Mohan and Brendan Aspinall.
