TWO TIME champion Sandy Lyle fired a six under par 66 in North Carolina yesterday, to join a three way tie for the lead after the opening round of the $1.9 million Greater Greensboro Classic.

Lyle, a former British Open and Masters champion, who won this event in 1986 and 1988, shares the lead with Mike Hulbert and rookie Robert Damron.

PGA Tour money leader Steve Elkington, who captured his first career victory at this tournament in 1990, was among eight players one stroke back on 67.
