Lucky escape for Dettori

Frankie Dettori had a double and a lucky escape at Leicester yesterday. Dettori found himself on the turf after landing his second win of the afternoon on 4 to 6 favourite Wahiba Sands in the Squirrel Condition Stakes.

Wahiba Sands stumbled when cantering back after beating Besiege by two lengths and pitched Dettori over his head.

The jockey landed heavily on his right shoulder and initial fears that he may have damaged his collarbone were fuelled as he returned to the weigh room holding his right arm away from his body.

But after being seen by the doctor, the Italian was passed fit and was able to take his remaining ride.

Dettori initiated his double on odds-on shots when Godolphin's 8 to 11 newcomer Altibr eventually stamped his authority on the EBF Widmerpool Maiden Stakes.
