KlLLIAN LONERGAN, a third year student at Harvard University, broke new ground last Saturday when he dipped under the 14 minute mark for 5,000 metres at an indoor meeting at Boston College. Lonergan, who competes for Clonliffe Harriers, was timed at 13 minutes 59 seconds for the distance, a considerable improvement on his previous best which stood around the 14.30 mark.

This time will qualify the Dubliner for the American Collegiate championships next month.
