Gaelic Games NewsJohn Leahy's hurling career may be over, after surgery yesterday revealed that he has damaged the cruciate ligament in his knee.

It had been hoped that the injury suffered by the Tipperary veteran at training earlier in the week might turn out to be less serious. But news emerged last night confirming that the player, who had just returned to the county panel after damaging the cruciate in his other knee, will be facing a long lay-off.

At 33 this year, Leahy faces a long rehabilitation which may signal the end of a distinguished career.

Concerns about Leahy's county colleague Eamonn Corcoran will not be resolved until next week, as the report of match referee Pat Aherne had not arrived by last Wednesday's meeting of the Games Administration Committee.

Details of tomorrow week's NFL finals at Croke Park have been finalised. The Division One final, between Tyrone and Laois, will be at 3.45 p.m. and Cork's Michael Collins will referee. The Division Two Limerick-Westmeath curtain-raiser starts at 2 p.m. with Tyrone's Michael Hughes in charge.

Details of the hurling final on Bank Holiday Monday will be

announced as soon as the finalists become clear.
