Laois 4-14 Westmeath 0-13  LAOIS put themselves back in the equation for promotion with a comfortable victory over pointless Westmeath at Portlaoise.

Westmeath were as good as their opponents in the second half but goals win games and Laois had laid the foundations for victory with three well-taken green flags in the opening half despite facing into a difficult breeze as they built up a 3-5 to 0-7 interval lead.

Westmeath tried desperately hard on the change over but the goal they needed was denied by a solid Laois defence where Matthew Whelan and Darren Maher were excellent.
