Jurgen Klinsmann announced yesterday that he would be retiring from football after this year's World Cup in France. The 33-year-old Germany skipper, who claimed the first goal of his second spell with Tottenham in Saturday's 1-0 win over West Ham, revealed he would not be playing for either club or country following France '98 which ends on July 12th.

In an interview with German radio station ARD, Klinsmann said: "I will not be playing in the 2000 European championships. I will be retiring from football after the World Cup."
