Goals from Charlie Carter and Matty Walsh during the opening 11 minutes put Kilkenny on their way to an easy victory over under-strength Tipperary in this senior hurling challenge at Nowlan Park yesterday evening.

Those two scores and a flurry of points from Canice Brennan, Brian Ryan, Sean Ryan and Carter helped the winners into an interval lead of 2-8 to 0-7. When they added six unanswered scores within five minutes of the restart it was all over.
