Frenchman Pascal Chanteur showed his class by winning yesterday's fourth stage of the Paris Nice race, while compatriot Laurent Jalabert maintained his grip on the leader's white jersey.

Chanteur (29), led home a group of seven riders to capture the 165 km stage from Montlucon to Clermont Ferraad, the third stage victory of his career.

ONCE rider Jalabert, looking for his third successive Paris Nice title, finished third behind Chanteur and Swiss rider Laurent Dufaux in the leading group.
