The Republic of Ireland women's team moved to the top of European championship Group Five with a thoroughly professional performance at Farrar Road, Bangor, yesterday.

The impressive Irish received a boost after only two minutes when prolific Listowel striker Geraldine O'Shea finished clinically from five yards after a long clearance from goalkeeper Emma Byrne. Then, 26 minutes later, Wales went further behind when Angie McNally's 45-yard cross-cum-shot from the left somehow floated over the Welsh goalkeeper.

McNally added a third in injury time, finishing from close range after being set up by O'Shea.

Ireland: E Byrne (St Patrick's), G Kierans (St Patrick's), M Saurin (Shamrock Rovers), R Power (St Patrick's), Y Lyons (Benfica), G Bennett (Kells), C Grant (Benfica), B Reilly (Shamrock Rovers), G O'Shea (Listowel), L Curran (Shelbourne), A McNally (Rathfarnham).
