GROUP D: David Villa struck two first-half goals to steer Valencia to a 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk and allow his side to continue their perfect start to this season's European campaign. The win keeps Valencia at top of the table.

In the other Group D game, a lone strike late in the game from Italian international Simone Perrotta was enough to give AS Roma a fortunate 1-0 win over Olympiakos Piraeus at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
