THE IRISH Senior Cup hockey holders Instonians finished second in Division B of the European Cup Winners Cup tournament when they were beaten 1-0 by Polish opponents, Pocztowiec, in yesterday's final in Gibraltar.

There was honour in defeat for the Belfast team because their opponents included six members of the Poland team which played in the European championship in Dublin last August. It was only though a deflection that Pocztowiec (free scoring in their earlier matches) took the laurels

Pegasus retained premier division status for next year's Irish representatives in the women's European Cup Winners Cup after finishing on a high scoring note in Rotterdam yesterday.

In a play off match to determine fifth place in the A division, the Ulster side defeated Italians Libertis San Saba 8-0, with goals from Nadine Long, who hit a hat trick, Jeanette Turner (2) Kim Mills (2) and Michelle Rainey.
