For all those counties that feel sorry for themselves after losing in the first round of the All-Ireland championship, leaving them with an entire summer without competitive hurling or Gaelic football, spare a thought for Grenada. On Saturday they became the first of 195 competing nations to be eliminated from the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup when they lost 5-3 on aggregate to Barbados. They now have to wait four years before they get another bite at the cherry. Barbados, meanwhile, advance triumphantly to the second round of the Caribbean qualifiers where they will meet the mighty Puerto Rico or the footballing colossus otherwise known as Aruba.
