Grandera earned a possible tilt at the Group One Racing Post Trophy after impressively taking the Dominic Ostler Benefit Day Maiden Stakes at Warwick yesterday.

James Fanshawe's highly-regarded youngster was well-fancied when beaten on his Newmarket debut in July, but left that running behind.

Partnered by David Harrison, he was always moving nicely just off the pace-setting Bulsefia before quickening smartly to see off that rival by a facile four lengths.

Fanshawe said: "The Racing Post Trophy is a long way off, but there's an auction graduation race at Goodwood a week next Thursday and that could prove the ideal stepping stone to Doncaster in October."

Meanwhile, Jamie Spencer, who has partnered 70 winners this season, faces a lengthy suspension after being referred to the stewards of the Jockey Club for his use of the whip.
