David Jones, from City of Derry, won the Irish Boys' Championship in Youghal as expected last week. Despite a disappointing opening round of 74, the young Derry golfer finished with a 72 and 68 to win by one shot. In second place was Darren O'Connor (Galway Bay), a son of Christy O'Connor Jnr. He too finished with a 68, but a second round of 76 wrecked his chances. Still he had the consolation of winning the Under-17 trophy.
