NICK FALDO will be among 12 of the world's leading golfers teeing off today in the crater of an extinct South African volcano in the annual Million Dollar Challenge on the Gary Player Country Club course in Sun City.

The field includes the four majors winners of 1996 US Master champion Faldo, US Open champion Steve Jones, British Open champion Tom Lehman and USPGA champion Mark Brooks.

Colin Montgomerie, who headed this year's European Order of Merit, and Ian Woosnam will also be competing.

There are six Americans in the field: Lehman, Jones and Brooks are joined by defending champion Corey Pavin, Mark O'Meara and Steve Stricker.

South Africa's Ernie Els is three to 1 favourite, but even the last placed golfer will pick up more than £66,000.
