England captain Steven Gerrard will win his 100th cap tomorrow after a scan confirmed he suffered no knee ligament damage during Liverpool’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Chelsea.

Gerrard suffered a knock late in the 1-1 draw and, after reporting for duty in Manchester yesterday, was sent for a precautionary scan by the Football Association.

The scan revealed there was no damage, meaning Gerrard will lead his country into their friendly against Sweden in Stockholm, where he will become only the sixth Englishman to reach a century of caps.

An FA statement read: “Steven Gerrard has been cleared to travel with the England squad to Sweden having undergone a precautionary scan on Monday afternoon.

“The England captain reported to the team hotel following Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea and, having received positive news, is set to win his 100th cap against Sweden in Stockholm.”
