WAYSIDE CELTIC beat fellow Leinster Senior League outfit Cherry Orchard at Kilternan to earn a place in this morning's second round draw of the FAI Cup.

Pat Geraghty (19) scored twice the first half but it was Gerry Hayden, at 35 Wayside's oldest player, who produced a masterful performance in midfield.

Cherry Orchard had Chris Madden sent off in the second half for an off the ball incident but they nearly snatched a dramatic equaliser when Vincent Perth chipped the keeper only to see his effort go just inches over the bar.

Wayside went in front after nine minutes when Geraghty whipped home Paul Masterson's cross from the left. The visitors went further behind when keeper John Barnwell failed to collect a cross from Steve Martin and Geraghty was again on hand to convert from five yards.

Sixteen minutes after the restart Cherry Orchard were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box. And although Ray Murtagh's shot rebounded off the wall, Vincent Perth drove in an unstoppable shot beyond Robbie O'Dowd.
